An Evening Book Event, Lecture and Q & A
Wednesday, August 4, 2021, 7:00 – 8:30 pm ET
The New York Times bestselling author of the classic The Care of the Soul addresses the needs of those providing soul care to others—therapists, psychiatrists, ministers, spiritual directors, teachers and even friends—sharing his insights for incorporating a spiritual dimension into their work. Soul Care is based on practical and proven advice that can also be used by the everyday person to simply help a friend in need. His approach to therapy is rooted in a more philosophical and spiritual psychology that is suited to both the professional who wants to go beyond medications and behavior changes, as well as to the everyday person who feels called to help friends and relatives when life gets complicated but doesn’t know what to say.
Soul care can address issues that disturb or wound the soul such as: doing work you don’t love; abuse from earlier in life; working so hard so you don’t have time to play or have fun; living with a difficult relationship, and so on.
Note: This program will be offered online. Sessions of all our online programs will be recorded and shared with registrants after each is completed for 90 days.
Soul Therapy is a training manual filled with a lifetime’s worth of wisdom, divided into five areas:
- What therapy or “soul care” is and how it works.
- What soul work requires of the helper to be able to address the needs of others; (such as how to listen, speak, comport yourself, address stories and dreams. etc.)
- How to access and move forward the spiritual dimension in others;
- How to apply this work to specific areas, such as work, marriage, parenting or teaching;
- How to deal with other issues that arise, such as developing a therapeutic style, dealing with one’s shadow and the need for self-care.
Profound yet practical, enlightened yet grounded in real-world experience, Soul Therapy is a timely work that will become a definitive resource for caregivers and practitioners and to those of us who may want to learn how to offer comfort and an attentive ear to a friend or relative. If you give the soul what it needs and wants, then your life and maybe even your physical health will likely be good. Therefore, often the best healing of life and body is serious, positive attention to the needs of your soul.
Each ticket includes your own hardcover book Soul Therapy: The Art & Craft of Caring Conversations. The book will be mailed after the event to participants with the current U.S. mailing address. We cannot mail the book internationally.
If you are joining us from outside of the U.S., we have an option for you, please email to hello@opencenter.org before registering for the event.
