ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
A Full Day Workshop in Two Days
Saturday & Sunday, January 22 – 23, 2022, 1:00 – 4:00 pm ET
Writing about our lives can feel overwhelming, especially if we’re dealing with hard topics like, say, living through a pandemic and racial reckoning, or family drama. But as the research shows, creative writing can be therapeutic for mind and body, moving us out of “stuckness” and towards transformation. And when we share our stories, others can also heal or feel empowered to share theirs.
Following on her popular How to Write Memoir & Still Be Invited to Family Thanksgiving workshop, Faith Adiele will share strategies and secrets for making memoir easier. Meditative exercises will help unearth your story, while empowering literary strategies like humor, poetic techniques, playful structures and “telling it slant ” (poet Emily Dickinson’s term for gently writing the truth about life situations, so it doesn’t overwhelm the reader) will provide tools to make readers care.
You will learn:
- How to find the larger story and theme in important life moments
- How to make research and investigation creative
- How to avoid re-traumatizing readers or yourself
- How to play with diverse literary strategies and techniques
Note: This is a writing workshop for all levels, from those who consider themselves beginners or non-writers, to experienced writers who wish to fine-tune or focus. The focus of this class is on innovative strategies for hard topics, with an added emphasis on the technique of memoir. Time will be given to defining and illustrating memoir before diving into hard topics.
Note: This program will now be offered online. It will be recorded and shared with registrants after each online program for three months (90 days).
