ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
A Weekly Series
(4 Sessions) Tuesdays, April 13 – May 4, 2021, 7:00 – 9:00 pm ET
Learn how to masterfully capture the energy of words through simple visuals.
In this 4-week course, you will become a more mindful listener and creative communicator as you harness the power of words through visuals. Stories are the most important way to transfer information, feelings and lessons. In this life, it is equally important to be the observer giving space for another person to share from the heart, as well as being fully seen and heard through your own sharing from the heart. The bridge that is created by holding this container is truly sacred.
This course will allow you to experience both roles as you develop your emotional connection to words and symbols, alongside storytelling. By learning this technique of visual note-taking, you can build stronger bridges in all areas of your life! If you are looking for a deeper connection to your self expression, creativity, listening and retention capabilities, this program is for you!

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
- How to be a more mindful listener.
- Develop your emotional connection to words
- Visual notetaking
In session 2 and 3, students begin practicing Visual Listening with words and symbols. Students will listen to Grandmother Kaariina Saarina speak about the Navajo Prophecy and practice recording the talk with words and symbols.
Near the end of the course, students will be listening to Carolina Rubio-MacWright, an Immigration Attorney and Artist, talk about her story of learning and awareness. Students will practice visual note techniques while listening to her story, before they go into sharing their own stories.

+ your live drawing practice through 3 guided activation opportunities
COURSE CONTENT
Session 1 – Welcome and Introduction into the course + Understanding the Power of Words + The Power of Storytelling
Session 2 – Visual Words / Visual Listening
Session 3 – Symbols / Visual Listening
Session 4 – Storytelling in partners ( Sharing a story / capturing a story )
WHAT YOU’LL NEED FOR THIS COURSE
- Prerequisites: N/A
- Supplies list for the class:
– Blank, unlined loose leaf paper, 8.5 x 11 or smaller (6 pieces minimum)
– A journal, or notebook / scrap paper ( post-it’s work well! )
– Favorite pen or marker. Think of something you love to write with. It should feel good in your hand and you like how the ink comes out! Thin Sharpies work great, and be aware, they will bleed through your other paper. We will only be working with 1 color. Make sure if you choose to use a color, it’s not too light to see. The recommendation is to use black or blue ink. You’ll learn why in the course!
– Large post-it’s or note cards for some of the exercises
- Zoom Software Requirements: This is an online course that requires Zoom webinar software. Zoom is easy to use. Click HERE to make sure your computer is set-up correctly.
