ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
A Weekly Class
Tuesdays, October 12 – 26, 2021, 6:30 – 8:00 pm ET
Why do more than 3 million Americans practice qigong, China’s ancient healing art? These gentle yet dynamic exercises are meditation in motion and connected to the Taoist quest for longevity, health and peace. Learn three core qigong wellness routines, for better posture, improved coordination, deeper breathing and connection to nature. Although practice oriented, there will also be time for discussion of how and why qigong works to restore energy balance.
Note: This course can be taken as a 3-part program, or individual sessions. No previous experience needed. Beginners and all levels are welcome.

STAND LIKE A TREE, MOVE LIKE THE WIND
Learn the details of posture, movement and breathing upon which all qigong is based and how to change unhealthy habits to good ones. By practicing Standing Meditation (Zhan Zhuang), you learn proper alignment, how to take stress off the joints, and how to root into the ground like a tree. Then practice meditative walking for balance, grace, coordination and to find stillness within movement. What about the qi, the life energy? This is naturally gathered in the body’s energy reservoir, the dan tian, as you free the diaphragm and rediscover how to breathe as deeply and effortlessly as a child.

THE FIVE ANIMAL FROLICS: CRANE, BEAR, MONKEY, DEER, TIGER
Enjoy five foundation movements based on the balance of the Crane, the rooted strength of the Bear, the suppleness of the Monkey, the vitality of the Deer and the power of the Tiger. By following ancient postural and movement guidelines, we awaken a primordial part of ourselves, sense the spirit of the animals within and learn how to connect to the healing power of nature. Created by the second century doctor of Chinese medicine, Hua Tuo, the Animal Frolics are among the oldest healing exercises in the world and the standard against which other qigong methods are measured.
