PART I: A CELTIC VIEW OF NATURE ON EARTH DAY
12:00 – 1:00 pm ET
Join us this Earth Day for a mid-day session with one of Scotland’s leading ecological activists and environmental authors as we reflect on the state of our planet and the way ahead.
Looking back in time, the saints of the Celtic world lived in a time of brutal violence and abuse of power. And yet, they lived a rich spiritual life attuned to nature and the divine within it in sacred places like the island of Iona. Deeper back in time, Celtic spirituality rested on a bedrock of “faerie” traditions. These two form part of “Celtic spirituality” and open up an ecology of the imagination that is needed once again today.
What can we learn today from this example? How can we re-make a community of “soil, soul and society” – with the Earth, from deep within ourselves, and with the world around us? How might this speak to the abuse of power, the destruction of nature, the call to right relationships and overcoming violence in our world today?
PART II: RESPONDING CREATIVELY TO THE CLIMATE CRISIS
Alastair McIntosh, PhD in conversation with Open Center
board member, Jeffrey Gitterman
1:05 – 1:45 pm ET
Green Activism and ESG (Environmental, Social and Good Governance) Investing – How can they work together?
Join us for a conversation about how to direct, on the ground, activism can complement the growing and deeply needed shift in the financial world toward socially and environmentally responsible investing. From the Outer Hebrides of Scotland to Wall Street, the imperative to create a greener, more sustainable society is growing stronger.
The enormous climate emergency that looms behind all the crises of the contemporary world must be addressed and reversed. How can we do it? We invite you to a rare and candid dialogue between two current spheres of change, each aiming to generate a profound and necessary transformation of the world and the economy.
