Discover Your Doshas
By Open Center Staff
There are three doshas, vata, pita and kapha, and while everyone is likely to have some elements of each dosha, we are predominantly one or two doshas. Our dosha is determined at the moment of conception and provides a physical, mental and emotional blueprint for our life. As we go through life our doshas are impacted by environment, diet, age, weather, etc. Knowing your dosha can help you keep your doshas balanced and maintain optimal health throughout the natural fluctuations of life.
The Three Doshas:
- Kapha (Earth & Water): Kaphas are relaxed, easy going and compassionate. They have their feet firmly planted on the ground. They’re strong and muscular physically, and are emotionally stable, calm and patient. Someone with a Kapha imbalance tends to be sluggish and prone to weight gain.
- Pita (Fire & Water): Pita types are intense, goal-oriented, intelligent and athletically built. They have a fire burning within and they’re great leaders and public speakers. However, too much Pitta leads to compulsive, obsessed behavior, irritability and hot tempers.
- Vata (Space & Air): Vata types are naturally wiry and thin, enthusiastic, lively, restless and always on the move. When this dosha is out of balance, Vatas experience anxiety and an inability to focus.
