ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
An Evening Performance and Dialogue
Friday, March 5, 2021, 7:30 – 9:00 pm ET
Celebrate Woman’s History Month with one of India’s greatest vocal talents, Roopa Mahadevan. Roopa will perform a solo set featuring compositions from the Carnatic (South Indian classical) tradition as well as some snippets from her soul/jazz/R&B inspired crossover work, by her ensemble, Roopa in Flux.
Through her singing, she exposes the depth/beauty of Carnatic music, especially the song-form, called krithi. Roopa’s wishes to evolve these classical art forms she feels that not only can heal us but have the power to disrupt, offer ideas, spread joy and teach us how to reinvent ourselves today, by learning the essence of classical ways of living.
