We have been trivializing angels for some time – turning them into good-luck charms rather than acknowledging them as the powerful and important forces they are. In truth, by degrading angels we have been degrading ourselves.

I see angels every day and have since I was a baby – I see them as plainly as I see people on the street. I have no idea why I can see them and others can’t. I am dyslexic and uneducated and have never read a book. The only education I have is the education that God and his angels have given me, but that education is not recognized in this world.

I am not here to force anyone to believe, or say you have to listen, but maybe you should listen to me and open to the possibility that you really do have a guardian angel.

God has chosen your guardian angel especially for you and appointed it the gatekeeper of your soul. Your guardian angel is unique to you, it has never been to earth with any other soul, and will never come to earth with another soul.

Sometimes someone tells me that their granny, or someone else they loved who has died and gone to heaven is their guardian angel. This is an expression of affection and love and the angels tell me they are very happy when they hear it said – but it’s not actually true. Her granny is not an angel or a guardian angel. No person who has lived on this earth becomes an angel. We are all more than angels, because we have a soul and an angel doesn’t.

I have never seen anything to indicate that one person’s guardian angel is superior to another’s. When someone has what seems to others to be a happy and successful life, it’s not because they have a better guardian angel. If someone feels their life is a disaster it’s not because they have an incompetent guardian angel. We have free choice. Our guardian angels are always there whispering in our ears, trying to get us to listen. It does its best to prompt us to make the right choice, even if it may not seem like the easy choice at the time.

In my experience life is much happier and more fulfilling when we listen to our guardian angel but God has given us free will and neither your guardian angel nor any other angel is allowed to interfere with this.

Sometimes someone will say to me “I have God, Why do I need a Guardian angel?”

My response is that God has given you the gift of a guardian angel to help to protect your soul, and to bring it safely back to Heaven when your time comes. We are all human and evil does exist, our guardian angel helps us to resist it. We already listen to the ‘other side’ too easily so imagine what it would be like without a guardian angel to protect us. I am told that all the great spiritual leaders in all the religious traditions had a guardian angel to help them through life.

People sometimes ask me if I pray to my guardian angel, I don’t. I pray only to God, not to any angel. But I ask my guardian angel for help.

As a child I remember learning the prayer to the guardian angel that so many children in Ireland and elsewhere learned.

It’s beautiful:

Angel of God,
my guardian dear,
to whom God’s love commits me here,
ever this day,
be at my side
to light and guard,
to rule and guide.

Amen

The day I learned this was one of the best days I ever had in school. I was about five years old and it was the first time I had ever heard an adult – in this case my teacher – acknowledge that guardian angels existed, and could help us.

Even if you still have your doubts that guardian angels or angels exist. Just acknowledge that you could have a guardian angel. Your guardian angel is one of the most precious gifts that God has given you. If only we would all acknowledge that our guardian angels are real and listened to them, our world would be a much better place.
